Have you ever wondered whether that feeling in your gut is your intuition…
Or just your anxiety talking?
They can feel surprisingly similar.
Both create a strong feeling that something isn’t right. The difference is that they usually come from very different places. Anxiety is driven by fear. It focuses on what might happen. It fills your mind with endless “what if” questions.
“What if they leave me?”. “What if I fail?”. “What if I’m making the wrong decision?”
It pushes you to seek certainty in situations where certainty doesn’t exist.
Intuition, on the other hand, doesn’t usually argue with you. It doesn’t bombard you with worst-case scenarios or demand immediate action. It’s often quieter. More like a gentle knowing than a loud alarm.
Anxiety tends to make your world feel smaller. It encourages you to avoid, overthink, and control.
Intuition often guides you toward what aligns with your values even if it feels uncomfortable.
One asks you to run away. The other asks you to pay attention.
That doesn’t mean intuition is always right or anxiety is always wrong. Anxiety can alert us to real dangers. And intuition can sometimes be influenced by past experiences or unresolved fears.
That’s why it’s helpful to pause and ask yourself: “Am I reacting to what’s happening right now, or to what I’m afraid might happen?”
The answer can tell you a lot. The goal isn’t to silence anxiety or blindly trust every gut feeling. It’s to become curious about where the feeling is coming from. Because the better you understand the voice you’re listening to…The easier it becomes to make decisions based on clarity instead of fear.
